You’ve booked the venue, figured out the guest list, and decided a photo booth would be a fun addition to your event. But here’s something you probably haven’t considered: How many people can actually use the photo booth in an hour?
It’s a surprisingly important question, especially if you’re planning a wedding, corporate event, or large party with hundreds of guests. After all, you want everyone to have a chance to enjoy the experience, without spending half the evening waiting in line.
The good news? A professionally managed photo booth can accommodate a lot more people than you might think. But the numbers depend on the type of experience you’re offering.
For a typical photo booth rental, 40–60 sessions per hour is a reasonable planning estimate. With a streamlined setup, particularly one focused on quick photos and digital sharing, that number can climb to 75–90 sessions per hour during busy periods.
And here’s an important distinction: a session doesn’t necessarily mean one person. A couple taking a picture together counts as one session. So does a group of six coworkers squeezing into the frame. That means 50 sessions could easily represent well over 100 guest appearances.
Of course, not everyone moves at the same speed. Some guests step in, smile, snap their picture, and they’re done. Others need to try on three hats, gather their friends, and debate whether they should do one more pose. (Spoiler alert: they usually do.)
Absolutely! A standard photo booth offering quick, professional photos will generally move faster than an experience involving several steps. For example, a Digital Selfie Booth with instant digital sharing can be especially efficient when there’s a large crowd.
Add multiple poses, physical props, printed photos, or personalized options, and each session can take a little longer. AI photo booths introduce another consideration, since guests may be choosing different transformations and waiting for their AI-generated images.
But AI experiences don’t necessarily mean slow-moving lines. During a TD Employee Appreciation event, Sweet Magic produced approximately 164 personalized AI sports trading card sessions in about three hours. That’s roughly 55 sessions per hour, including a customized experience that turned employees into World Cup soccer stars! Watch the TD trading card experience in action.
The key is having the right equipment, a well-designed experience, and experienced attendants who know how to keep things running smoothly.
For most weddings and private parties with approximately 75–150 guests, a three-hour photo booth rental can work very well. Larger celebrations with 150–250 guests may benefit from three to four hours, depending on how many people are expected to participate.
But guest count isn’t the whole story. If your booth is available throughout the evening, guests will naturally come and go. If everyone is trying to squeeze in their photos during a 60-minute cocktail reception, that’s a very different situation!
And remember, guests love coming back for another round, especially once the dance floor gets going and everyone’s feeling a little more adventurous.
For corporate events, conferences, trade shows, and promotional activations, guest flow becomes even more important. If you’re expecting hundreds of participants within a limited window, planning the right experience from the beginning can make all the difference.
Sometimes that means simplifying the photo-taking process. Other times it means adding a second booth, having additional attendants, or choosing a roaming experience that brings the fun directly to guests.
We’ve managed everything from intimate private celebrations to busy, high-volume corporate brand activations, and one thing we’ve learned is that a little planning goes a long way.
There’s no magic number that works for every event. A photo booth that handles 80 quick sessions in an hour might be perfect for one occasion, while another event is better served by 40 more involved, personalized experiences.
The goal isn’t necessarily to get as many people through the booth as humanly possible. It’s to make sure everyone has a great time, gets fantastic photos, and walks away smiling.
So before booking a photo booth for your next Toronto or GTA event, think about your guest count, how long the booth will be operating, and what kind of experience you want people to enjoy. A good photo booth company should help you figure out the right balance.
Because the only lineup you really want at your event is one filled with people excited for their turn!
